This policy covers the College Abacus website, www.collegeabacus.org and all online forms on this website used to collect personal information. Information You Provide Us
When you enter information on the College Abacus website, you provide us information to access the Services, including name, age or date of birth, state of residence, demographic information, marital status, dependents and income detail (“Registration Data”). You agree that we may communicate with you regarding College Abacus to provide you the Services, alerts and newsletters. You may adjust your communication preferences at any time, for any reason, by following the instructions on the 'My Abacus' page.
When you use the College Abacus calculator to generate an estimate, you provide us information that we need in order to generate such estimate, such as your age, areas of interest, and income and other financial information (“Estimate Data”). We use this information to provide you the estimate and for internally improving the Service. If you are a Registered User, we store your Estimate Data with your account. If you are a Guest, we store and use your Estimate Data anonymously and in aggregate form only, unless you sign up as a Registered User within the same session, in which case we will associate such Estimate Data with your account. If you choose to upload your IRS tax forms for purposes of generating an estimate, we will cull information from the PDF. We do not pull or use the Social Security number. Once the income information is retrieved from the IRS form, we destroy the PDF so it is no longer available to us nor is it accessible by others.
When you request information from us, we may ask you to provide personal information to verify that you are a person to whom such information can be provided.
If you correspond with us, we may retain the content of your messages, your email address and our responses.
If you invite a friend to try College Abacus through our Service, we will use that friend's email address for the sole purpose of sending your invitation. We may temporarily maintain a log of this information for trouble shooting and fraud-prevention purposes.
You may choose to:
Not provide personal information, although that may result in your inability to obtain certain Services or to use certain features of our website;
Delete or decline cookies by changing your browser settings, although if you do so, some of the features of our website and Services may not function properly; and
